Qxpress not able to connect to ftp server12/30/2023 Then I've tried my virtual machine (VMware Workstation) with the usb modem and it suddenly worked!īoth of them (phisical laptop & virtual machine) windows 7, and I've temporarily turned off windows firewall and ESS firewall in both. I've tried a different internet connetion (totaly different ISP, usb cellular modem) but it also didn't worked. So I've started to test different servers and different clients (ftp wanderer) from my desktop, non of them worked. When I'm using it's working fine, when I'm login via SSH to another VPS and then try FTP the first one - it's working fine. I can reach my website, and I can connect via SSH to the server, but I can't connect with ftp from my desktop. I hope my explanations weren't too confusing.I've recently purchased VPS and setup virtualmin with all dependencies. To force it into Active Mode, you'll need to do the following: ftp īy doing so, the passive flag will be set to false and the Data Channel will use the Active Mode (if you do it again, it'll set it back to true). The ftp command uses by default the Passive Mode as well. So, you'll need to switch to the Active Mode so that the Data Channel connection is done by the server (who uses the port 20 to send) rather than the client.Īs the following picture shows, in FileZilla client, you can switch to Active Mode: So, with this mode, the port forwarding of port 20 (DATA CHANNEL) is obsolete because the external client (Internet) is trying to connect to another port for the Data Channel. Client connects from random port to a port specified by the server (DATA)īy default, FTP client applications use Passive Mode because it is more Server connects FROM port 20 to a port specified by the client (DATA)Ģ. Client connects to port 21 of server (Command Channel)Ģ. Here's a brief explanation of this two modes:ġ. There are two connection modes on FTP: Active Mode and Passive Mode. I'm guessing that it might be because of the FTP connection mode. If your user has logged in, that means that the problem isn't coming from the vsftpd service itself. Next, you'll need to make sure that you can connect to your ftp using your server itself (with the loopback): ftp 127.0.0.1 Rsa_cert_file=/etc/ssl/private/vsftpd.pemįirst of all, make sure that vsftpd service is running using the following command: sudo systemctl status rvice Default version, I have made no changes to it so far. Going to the works, ftp:// notĮdit2: I have been trying vsftpd, which seems to be the default FTP Server for UbuntuĮdit3: the nf (without comments). (Timeout for FileZilla, Page not found for Chrome). I've tested via Chrome and FileZilla, both said no response. I've tried connecting via Internet and from LAN. There is no firewall installed on the netbook. What steps can I take to figure out what's going wrong?Įdit: the network is connected via a D-Link DIR-615 Router, under forwarded ports is 20 and 21, both forwarded to my netbook with static IP. I have an Apache2 server running on it to use with the domain (), and I can connect to that. Now I wonder how can I figure out what I did wrong. I tried setting up a FTP Server on my Netbook, but I cannot connect to it.
